Today, August 1, a tense situation has arisen again in the Metsavan administrative district of Tashir community of Lori region.
Hundreds of residents blocked the Armenia-Georgia interstate highway in protest and demand an answer from the government as to why the highway has not moved for almost a year, although in December last year during another protest the authorities promised to solve the problem.
In an interview with a Shamshyan.com correspondent, the protesters stated:
“For more than a year, for some reason, no work has been carried out. We also held a protest then, blocked the road, and only by trusting the then governor of Lori region Aram Ghazaryan, we stopped the protests.
A. Ghazaryan kept his promise, the pothole on the road several kilometers long was leveled with special equipment, but Ghazaryan was transferred from the post of the regional governor to the post of deputy minister of internal affairs of the RA, head of the RA Police. Our expectations were not met, now we do not know whether the work will be done.
We will continue the protests until the problem is solved.”
The photojournalist reports that a large number of community police officers and patrol service officers arrived at the scene, who are convincing the protesters to open the road.
Earlier, on December 9, Shamshyan.com published a photo report and video from the protest of residents of the village of Metsavan in the Lori region. The residents demanded that the multi-kilometer road connecting several villages with the city of Tashir be repaired and that the potholes, due to which cars were broken down every day, be eliminated, and in many cases ambulances had difficulty getting to the place of the call. That day, the then governor of Lori, Aram Ghazaryan, met with the protesters and promised residents that he would temporarily improve the 6-7-kilometer road with “dirt”, as a result of which the potholes would disappear, and by 2025, with the support of the government, the road would be completely repaired.
