The presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is being passed to Kyrgyzstan. This is stated in the text of the final declaration of the summit in Tianjin, TASS reports.
As noted in the document, Kyrgyzstan’s presidency “will be held under the motto ’25 Years of the SCO: Together for Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity’.”
“The next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO Member States will be held in 2026 in the Kyrgyz Republic,” the final declaration says.
“The member states highly appreciate the results of the People’s Republic of China’s presidency of the SCO in 2024-2025, which contributed to deepening mutual understanding, trust, friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the member states and strengthening the authority of the Organization,” the summit participants noted.
The SCO summit, which will be held from August 31 to September 1 in Tianjin, China, is the largest in the history of the association. It will be attended by leaders of more than 30 countries and international organizations.
The SCO was established in Shanghai on June 15, 2001. After the summit in July 2024, the SCO presidency will pass to China.
