Statements by the press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Armenia’s peaceful position, “which is armed with all types of offensive weapons and makes territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Constitution and other legal acts, are manipulations,” said Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hacizade, commenting on the recent statement by the Armenian Foreign Ministry’s press secretary.
According to Azerbaijani media, Hacizade noted that “the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry refers to a recent decision by the Constitutional Court regarding the conformity of the Armenian Constitution to the regulations governing the joint activities of the delimitation commission between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as confirmation that there are no territorial claims in their Constitution against neighbors.”
“Referring to the facts regarding this statement, it is sufficient to recall that the Armenian side has not renounced the so-called claims to Western Armenia since January 2010 when the Constitutional Court’s decision was detailed regarding the conformity of the Constitution to the agreements on the regulation of relations with Turkey.”
“Armenia should refrain from contradictory statements and provocative actions, and demonstrate respect for the norms and principles of international law through its activities and real actions,” he said.
It is notable that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman speaks of international legal norms without any embarrassment, while choosing to forget about his country being armed to the teeth, the constant aggressive statements of its leadership, the occupation of Armenia’s sovereign territory, the forced displacement of the Armenian population from Artsakh, the destruction of their culture and history, and many other issues. It is also interesting that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has now intertwined the issue of Turkey, for which there are numerous responses.
