Crimea should not have been given up then, just as the Ukrainians did not give up Kyiv, Odessa and Kharkov after 2022. Zelensky responded to Trump

I have already arrived in Washington. I am meeting with US President Donald Trump. We will also talk with European leaders. I am very grateful to the American president for the invitation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote about this.

“We all equally want to quickly and reliably end this war. And peace must be long-term. Not like many years ago, when Ukraine was forced to cede Crimea and part of our East, part of Donbass, and Putin simply used this as a springboard for a new attack.

Or when in 1994 Ukraine was given supposed “security guarantees,” but they did not work. Of course, Crimea should not have been given up then, just as the Ukrainians did not give up Kyiv, Odessa and Kharkov after 2022. Ukrainians are fighting for their land, for their independence.

Now our soldiers are making progress in the Donetsk region and Sumy. I am confident that we will protect Ukraine, effectively guarantee its security, and our people will always be grateful to President Trump, all of America, every partner for their support and invaluable assistance.

Russia must end this war that it started. And I hope that our joint force, with America and our European friends, will force Russia to make a real peace. Thank you,” Zelensky wrote.

Recall that Trump advised Zelensky to forget about Crimea and NATO membership.
