Former Trump adviser John Bolton charged with leaking classified information

John Bolton, who was Donald Trump’s national security adviser before becoming a vocal critic of the president, has been charged with federal criminal offenses.

He is accused of illegally transmitting classified information about U.S. national defense using his personal email and other messaging apps.

“These documents revealed intelligence about future attacks, foreign adversaries and foreign policy relationships,” court documents state.

If convicted, Bolton could face up to 10 years in prison on each count. He is expected to surrender to authorities on Friday.
