Georgian opposition party United National Movement member Nargiz Aliyeva accused an Azerbaijani talk show host of interfering in Georgia’s elections by supporting the ruling Georgian Dream party, Georgia Online reports.
“Host Khoshgadam Hidayatgizi openly campaigned, calling for support for a specific party in elections held in another country,” Aliyeva wrote on her Facebook page.
She said this was a violation of both international law and media regulations in Azerbaijan, adding that she would send an official letter to the broadcaster, ARB Television.
During the broadcast, Hidayatgizi called on the Georgian-Azerbaijani community to vote for Georgian Dream in the upcoming elections on Saturday.
Hidayatgizi also called on the Georgian-Azerbaijani community to remember Ukraine, saying that in Georgia, under the ruling party, everything is “stable, peaceful and different from Ukraine.”
Recently, Azerbaijani government and state media have published numerous articles that repeat the same narratives that the ruling Georgian Dream party has been spreading in Georgia, and more explicitly call on the Azerbaijani community in Georgia to support this party, Georgia Online emphasizes.
In her Facebook post, Aliyeva questioned where Hidayatgizi got her information, in particular, her claims about potential military conflicts on Georgian territory.
She also demanded that the relevant authorities of Georgia and Azerbaijan “immediately deal with this” and called on Hidayatgizi to apologize.
Recall that today, parliamentary elections are taking place in Georgia.
