Instead of reducing the mandatory military service, a normal government would introduce programs that encourage service in that direction. Tigran Abrahamyan, secretary of the “I Have Honor” faction, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“Wouldn’t it be better if the new conscript knew that after 2 years of service, his free education was guaranteed, quotas were established for new university admissions, each year of service was counted twice as seniority, places were determined through public service competitions, quotas were introduced in the private sector, privileges were established in healthcare services. And so on.
“This is a greater opportunity for many families in the long run than shortening the service by 6 months, adding a thousand problems to the troops, and leaving what happens to the young man after that service to the whims of fate.”
