French President Emmanuel Macron has reappointed Sébastien Lecornu as prime minister after he resigned just four days ago, declaring he no longer wished to lead the government, bbc.com reports.
The Élysée Palace announced Lecornu’s reappointment shortly after Macron gave him 48 hours to appoint a new prime minister.
Following the announcement at the Élysée Palace, Lecornu wrote in a letter that he accepted “the mission entrusted to him out of a sense of duty.”
Lecornu’s unexpected reappointment was preceded by a meeting on Friday afternoon between the president and the leaders of all political parties represented in parliament, with the exception of the far-right and far-left.
The purpose of the meeting was to agree on the programs of the new government, which would be able to pass a budget by the end of the year with the support of a majority of MPs.
