The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin strongly condemns the arrest of Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan, the head of the Mother See of the Church, on December 4 on fabricated and unfounded charges, as well as the court’s choice of pretrial detention for him. This is stated in a statement by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
“These actions are a manifestation of the recent repressions against the Church and a continuation of the process of political persecution of the clergy. The imprisonment of high-ranking clergy on fabricated charges is yet another manifestation of the authorities’ policy of corrupting the Church and inciting hatred against the clergy.
The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin demands an immediate end to the illegal persecution of Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan and the remaining imprisoned clergy. “The illegal persecution of Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan and the remaining imprisoned clergy demands the restoration of their violated rights,” the statement reads.
