During the night of June 9, Russian armed forces launched the largest attack on Ukraine since the beginning of the war, deploying 499 aerial strike assets, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU). In particular, the assault included 479 Shahed-type attack drones, along with decoys, and 20 various missiles, including four hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, ten Kh-101 cruise missiles, two Kh-31P anti-radar missiles, three Kh-22 anti-ship missiles, and one Kh-35.
According to the AFU, 479 targets were neutralized: 17 missiles and 277 drones were shot down, while another 187 drones and two Kh-22 missiles were lost from radar.
The remaining weapons struck ten locations. One Kh-22 missile successfully hit its target, and debris fell in 17 populated areas, the AFU reported. The air force said that the attack targeted the Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernihiv regions.
In Kyiv, an office building in the Darnytskyi district was damaged, according to the head of the city’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko. In the Rivne region, a civilian was injured. The head of the local military administration, Oleksandr Koval, noted that it was a “very difficult night” for the region due to “the most powerful airstrike by the enemy.”
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that it had struck a tactical aviation airfield of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Dubno area of Rivne region, describing it as part of a response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian military airfields.
The overnight assault on Ukraine marked the most massive airstrike since the war began.
