Russian Armenian businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan has been taken to the Armavir penitentiary in Vagharshapat (Ejmiatsin), Sputnik Armenia’s sources at the Armenian law enforcement have informed.
This came as a surprise to Karapetyan’s lawyers, as he was expected to be taken to the Kentron penitentiary in Yerevan.
The relatively recently built prison houses both prisoners and convicts.
A Yerevan court on Wednesday sentenced the head of the Tashir group of companies to two months in prison on charges of publicly calling for the seizure of power in Armenia.
