The Diocesan Council of the Artsakh Diocese does not share the position of the Primate of the Artsakh Diocese.

The Diocesan Council of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church does not share the position taken by the Primate of the Artsakh Diocese, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, in recent days, which has provoked the justified anger and outrage of our people. This was stated by Lernik Hovhannisyan, Chairman of the Artsakh Diocesan Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church, according to Aparaj.

As a reminder, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, along with a group of other high-ranking clergy, met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on November 29 and called for new elections for the Catholicos of All Armenians.

The Chairman of the Diocesan Council also reported that on November 28, members of the Diocesan Council met with the Primate of the Artsakh Diocese and called on him to issue a statement and apologize to his displaced people. However, despite the diocesan leader’s assurances, the statement contained not a single word of apology.

According to Lernik Hovhannisyan, the Primate of the Artsakh Diocese was in fact unwilling to apologize to his people. Moreover, his statements only exacerbated the outrage and regret. Hovhannisyan added that the Diocesan Council would express its clear position on this matter in the near future.

He also considered it unacceptable for the Artsakh Diocese’s website to become a mouthpiece for a group of clergy not affiliated with the diocese.
