The “Our Way” movement will soon propose various solutions to Yerevan’s various problems. This is stated in a message sent from the National Security Service detention center by Samvel Karapetyan, owner of the Tashir Group of Companies, on the eve of Yerevan Day.
The message reads: “Dear compatriots!
Soon we will celebrate the anniversary of our common and beloved capital of Armenians – Yerevan.
We all love our Yerevan dearly, despite all the circumstances, but let’s admit that today’s Yerevan, with its comfort, ecology, development, and programs, does not live up to its status as the capital of 10 million Armenians.
I don’t want to list all the problems individually; unfortunately, there are many: from the dreary architectural diversity to the lack of extensive parks, from a tourist infrastructure that is inappropriate for a capital with a thousand-year history, to the lack of large-scale development programs that Yerevan deserves. The main and daily discussed indicator of Yerevan’s development shouldn’t be asphalt works and the purchase of buses – these have no bearing on real development.
The situation is certainly not hopeless; the “Our Way” movement will soon offer various solutions to various problems. Yerevan must become the educational and medical center of the region. It must be known in the region for its international universities and high-quality medical services.
Thanks to major investments, we will make Yerevan a city worthy of the Pan-Armenian capital, a luxurious metropolis, comfortable for both living and working.
A program for the planned renovation of courtyards and building facades will be developed in accordance with best international practices. Many of our courtyards are reminiscent of the sad 1990s, even though we are in the 21st century.
Accessible and affordable transportation will ensure a more dynamic movement of our city.
We will also propose major investment programs to renovate the city’s housing stock and bring it into line with the requirements of the 21st century. We’ll ensure that news from Yerevan focuses not on the demolition of yet another kiosk, but on new development achievements and major new projects, following the example of the world’s best capitals.
