Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with US President Donald Trump in The Hague, where he is taking part in the NATO summit, Anadolu reports.
As reported by the Turkish media, the meeting of the heads of both states took place after a dinner hosted by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and his wife in honor of the leaders and their spouses participating in the NATO summit in The Hague.
The talks between the presidents were held behind closed doors.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and the US, regional and global issues.
During the meeting, Erdogan said that the two countries have “great potential in various fields, especially in energy and investment.”
According to him, the development of cooperation, especially in the defense industry, will contribute to achieving the goal of a total trade volume of $100 billion.
The Turkish President also welcomed the ceasefire reached between Israel and Iran thanks to Trump’s efforts.
Erdogan wished for it to be permanent and stressed the importance of close dialogue for a speedy end to the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and a peaceful resolution to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“As leading NATO allies, the leaders of the two countries stressed the importance of further steps to strengthen the deterrent power of the Alliance,” the Turkish media writes.
