On the night of June 6, the city of Engels in Russia’s Saratov region came under attack by Ukrainian drones, according to Governor Roman Busargin. He reported that the attack caused a fire at “one of the industrial facilities.” “Preliminarily, there are no casualties. All relevant emergency services are on site. Specialists are taking all necessary measures to eliminate the consequences,” Busargin wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to Astra, the fire broke out at the “Kristall” oil depot operated by Rosrezerv, which supplies fuel to the Engels-2 military airbase. This base is home to Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers. Earlier this year, the oil depot was targeted twice by Ukrainian drones. During the first attack on January 8, three storage tanks, each holding 120,000 cubic meters, were destroyed, and six others were damaged. Around 800,000 tons of fuel were reportedly lost. The second attack occurred on January 14, while the fire from the first incident had not yet been fully extinguished.
During the June 6 drone raid, one of the UAVs also struck a residential complex on Telman Street in Engels. Residents were evacuated, and by morning, the governor announced that there was no longer any danger and that evacuees would soon be able to return to their homes. No injuries were reported from the drone strike on the building. Footage published by the “Saratov Online” Telegram channel showed a balcony on an upper floor of the residential complex on fire following the impact.
Additionally, Ukrainian drones struck a facility in Michurinsk, Tambov region, according to acting regional head Yevgeny Pervyshov. “Unfortunately, three people were injured, and two have been hospitalized,” he stated. Astra reported that the target was the “Progress” plant, which manufactures advanced control systems for aviation and missile technology, as well as a wide range of civilian electrical equipment and components for gas and oil pipelines.
Explosions were also heard near Bryansk airport during the night, though it remains unclear what exactly was hit. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that 10 drones were intercepted and destroyed on their approach to the capital. He did not provide information on any ground damage or casualties.
According to a summary from the Russian Ministry of Defense, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 174 Ukrainian drones overnight. The attacks were repelled in the Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Ryazan, Tula, Belgorod, and Tambov regions, the Moscow area, and the occupied territory of Crimea.
