The water supply and drainage infrastructure in the Gaza Strip has suffered significant damage due to Israel’s year-long aggression. This was reported by WAFA agency, citing information from the enclave’s water resources department.
According to the report, 85% of Gaza’s water supply and sewage facilities have either completely or partially ceased operations due to the destruction of vital infrastructure. Many facilities, including purification and desalination plants, pumping stations, wells, water tanks, and main pipelines, require comprehensive restoration.
The agency noted that ongoing power outages have exacerbated issues in the water sector, along with a severe shortage of fuel needed for the operation of backup generators. Interruptions in the supply of spare parts and essential materials, as well as significant destruction of infrastructure, have further complicated the maintenance of water supply and drainage systems.
Israel’s aggression has impacted all three water sources in Gaza, reducing production to approximately 30-35% of pre-war levels. Desalination plants have also been damaged, and the main desalination plant in northern Gaza has completely gone out of service, according to WAFA.
