Armenia intends to bring the geological information accumulated over the decades into a digital format, as well as the fulfillment of contractual obligations of companies in the field of mining and permitting. the processes of control over it. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Asatur Vardanyan announced this while speaking at the Mining Armenia Forum 2026. According to him, Armenia is rich in natural resources, and the geological fund of the country has accumulated information about them for decades. However, in order for this data to turn into investment opportunities, it must be reliable, accessible and presented in an understandable language. This information will become a starting point for potential investors. Vardanyan emphasized that digitization is one of the government's priorities, and the mining sector is no exception. That problem is clearly stated in the government's recently approved five-year plan for 2026-2030. The Ministry has already initiated the transfer of existing processes in the field to digital platforms. According to the deputy minister, the digitization project developed by the ministry was approved by the Digitization Council. The terms of reference have been prepared, tenders have been announced, and the decision of the winning organizations is expected in the near future. Vardanyan particularly emphasized that very high standards are set for technical requirements. In particular, it is planned to involve international experts who have significant experience in this field. According to the deputy minister, the digitization of geological information will not be limited to simply transferring existing materials to electronic format. Their deep processing is planned, and the data itself will also be available in foreign languages, so that potential investors can use them. This will enable investors to get the baseline information necessary for initial evaluation, and then take further steps in the directions that will interest them. Vardanyan stressed that the digitization of geological information does not end only with the creation of a database. The Ministry intends to digitize all relevant processes, including the issuance of permits. The deputy minister admitted that the currently operating "one window" principle does not work fully, and there are problems in its implementation. Within the framework of digitization, it is also planned to ensure the control of the fulfillment of contractual obligations by companies using digital tools. In addition, the exchange of information will be carried out through appropriate platforms. According to Vardanyan, these measures will significantly increase the transparency of the mining sector and help attract potential investors. It should be noted that the co-organizers of Mining Armenia Forum 2026 are the "Mining Industry Forum" Development Fund and the Association of Mining and Metallurgy of Armenia. Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine and Lydian Armenia Company are the strategic sponsors of the third time forum, and the main sponsors are Ameriabank and "Teghut" CJSC.
