The number of confirmed cases of Ebola in Kenya has risen to eight, according to Patrick Shame, the country's director general of health. “Today, we examined 38 people, one of whom tested positive,” he said. According to Shame, the newly infected man is a 49-year-old man who worked in a hospital cleaning dishes and linens. He is believed to have contracted Ebola from contact with the first Ebola patient in Kenya. A man has developed a fever, headache, and muscle aches. He is now isolated and receiving necessary care. As reported by Capital FM, on October 17, the Kenyan Ministry of Health reported four new cases of infection (with three representatives of healthcare workers and a relative of the first patient). By the time the diagnosis was confirmed, they were all already quarantined. Accordingto the department, authorities identified 130 people who had contact with infected people, 128of whom had been quarantined. No signs of virus spread among the population outside the identified contact chain have yet been reported. The first case of Ebola infection in Kenya was confirmed on October 6. The patient was a citizen of the country who had previously resided in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and arrived in Nairobi on October 3 (via Uganda transit) and died on October 5.
