Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian within the framework of the COP17 leaders' summit in Yerevan. The information about the meeting was spread by the administration of the Georgian government and the Iranian embassy in Tbilisi. According to the Georgian side, the relations between the two countries were discussed. The positive dynamics of cooperation in the field of tourism was noted. "Besides, the parties paid attention to the situation in the region. The Prime Minister of Georgia once again emphasized the special importance of dialogue and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and ensure long-term peace," the message said. The Iranian embassy, in turn, reported that the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the development of a mutually beneficial partnership between Tehran and Tbilisi. The Leaders' Summit takes place on October 15-16 in Yerevan, ahead of the main session of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17). According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, up to 50 leaders of different countries are participating in the ministerial part of COP17. Tbilisi and Tehran continue to develop bilateral contacts against the backdrop of international sanctions against Iran and tensions in the region. Georgia has not applied its own restrictions against Iran, but international sanctions affect economic ties between the countries. In particular, after the application of American sanctions in September, the flights of Iranian airlines to Georgia were stopped.
