Lithuania has frozen the assets of Russian businessmen Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov as part of the national sanctions regime. The Foreign Minister of the country Kyastutis Budris announced about it on X social network. According to the Foreign Minister of Lithuania, the decision was taken after the two Russian oligarchs were removed from the EU sanctions list. According to Budris, that step sends the wrong impulse against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine. "The Kremlin's war against Ukraine is supported by influential circles that continue to benefit from and contribute to Russian aggression. When two influential Russian oligarchs were removed from the list of EU sanctions, it sent the wrong signal," the minister wrote. He emphasized that Vilnius intends to act independently and not to ignore the risks related to the relaxation of sanctions pressure on Russia. "Lithuania is taking measures and will not stand aside. Today, we have frozen the assets of Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov as part of our national sanctions regime," Budris said. At the same time, the Foreign Minister of Lithuania called for strengthening and maintaining the sanctions pressure against Russia and those who contribute to the continuation of its war against Ukraine.
