In the north of Lithuania, in the region of Pasvalis, fragments of an unmanned aerial vehicle were found. The location of the possible fall of the object has been cordoned off with a radius of about five kilometers, the Lithuanian army announced on October 18, LRT reports. Small fragments were found near the road and in fields far from residential houses. Experts are finding out whether they belong to the object that was recorded earlier by military radars. It is not yet known whether the drone could have carried explosives. According to the army, at around 06:15 local time, the radars of the Lithuanian Air Force registered a sign of an object moving north from Poland. Due to difficult weather conditions, it was not possible to determine its type. Later, that sign disappeared from the radar screens, and the fighters participating in the NATO air patrol mission returned to the Šiauliai airbase. Military police and other services began to search the area after reports of an explosion in the Pasvalis area. Army representative Vytautas Vitkauskas told LRT that the object was not hit, and the circumstances of its fall have yet to be clarified. Early in the morning, an air alert was declared in Panevezys and Šiauliai regions. Residents received warnings on their mobile phones with recommendations to go to shelters. Later, the Lithuanian army announced the cancellation of the alarm. Authorities urged residents not to approach suspicious objects that resemble drone debris and to report their discovery by calling 112. Due to the examination of the area, the road leading to Birzhai was temporarily closed.
