Turkey has sent its first floating natural gas processing platform named "Osman Gazi" to the Black Sea. After the operation of the facility, gas production in the Sakaria field is planned to double, increasing it to 20 million cubic meters per day by 2027. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced this in a video message on the departure of the platform from Filyos port in Zonguldak province, reports Anadolu Agency. "Today we are opening a completely new page in our energy history. "We are sending Osman Ghazi, which is essentially a floating industrial complex, to the Black Sea," Erdogan said. The President of Turkey reminded that he announced his intention to acquire the first floating production platform in July 2024. In May 2025, the facility named "Osman Gazi" was moved from Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul to Filyos port. According to Erdogan, the platform will become the first production facility of the Turkish "Blue Homeland" concept, which reflects the country's maritime ambitions within the framework of the "Era of Turkey" national program. "Osman Gazi" is equipped with 21 technological modules. It will receive natural gas from the wells of the "Sakaria" mine, process it and send it to the Filios coast through underwater pipelines. The platform is designed for 20 years of round-the-clock work and can accommodate up to 140 employees. Erdogan announced that from 2027, Turkey's own gas will meet the needs of every third family in the country. According to the Public Relations Department of the President's Office, the export of the platform's design capacity will provide gas to around 8 million households. It is expected that the facility's annual contribution to the economy will be 3.5 billion dollars. The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, speaking at the ceremony in Filyos, also noted that the platform will allow the daily production of gas in the "Sakaria" field to be increased to 20 million cubic meters. per square meter (in 2027). "Osman Gazi" will become the first floating natural gas processing plant in Turkey.
