At least six people have been killed and 32 injured in a fire at a private hospital in Dindigul, a town in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
According to The Hindu, the fire broke out in the four-storey hospital building late on December 12. Six people were trapped in a stopped lift and died of smoke inhalation. All the injured were taken to the hospital, while the rest were evacuated by hospital staff and firefighters.
The Tamil Nadu government has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said it would provide them with financial support. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
