Ukraine has signed its first agreement to import gas from Azerbaijan. The pilot supply is small and is carried out via the Trans-Balkan corridor, said Serhiy Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
In early July, then-Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko discussed the possibility of gas supplies from Azerbaijan with his Azerbaijani counterpart Parviz Shakhbazov.
“Ukraine is importing Azerbaijani gas via the Trans-Balkan corridor for the first time. The first gas purchase agreement was signed with SOCAR Energy Ukraine, a company of the SOCAR group. The pilot supply is carried out via the Bulgaria-Romania-Ukraine route. This is a small but strategically important step that opens the way to long-term cooperation,” Koretsky wrote on his Facebook page.
