A specially protected natural area "Hrazdan Gorge" will be created in Yerevan. The relevant decision was adopted on October 13, at the meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders. The works to grant a special environmental status to Hrazdan Gorge were started in 2022. About a quarter of the 33 species registered in the Red Book of Plants of Armenia and found in the territory of Yerevan grow in the Hrazdan Gorge. In addition, new endangered species are regularly discovered here, which further emphasizes the importance of the biodiversity of this region and the urgency of its preservation. It was noted that hotels and buildings, including apartment buildings, will not be built. Armen Pambukhchyan, the deputy mayor of Yerevan, said that the fate of the restaurants and cafes built in the gorge will be decided later, after discussions.
