Citizens of other visa-free countries with Russia, Armenia and Kazakhstan will have to have an electronic permit to enter the republic from July 1, 2027. The document will be free and will remain valid for 180 days, according to Zakon.kz, referring to the decision of the country's government. Permission must be obtained electronicallyat least 72 hours before crossing the border. The new rules apply to citizens of all countries with visa-free access to Kazakhstan, except for specific categories of foreigners. The introduction of the system will begin step by step. From November 2026 to July 1, 2027, the absence of a permit will not be grounds for denial of entry; during that period, foreigners will simply clarify the need to formulate a document. Effective July 1, 2027, its availability will become mandatory for all those to whom the new requirements apply, and visa-free dates will not be changed. In particular, citizens of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia - can stay on the territory of the Republic for up to 90 days, every 180-day period. The time limits for citizens of other countries are set by the national legislation and international treaties of Kazakhstan. Individual categories of foreigners, including diplomats, international truck drivers, and citizens under the age of 16 and over 65, will be exempt from the requirement of obtaining an electronic permit. Citizens of states that need a visa to enter Kazakhstan will not change the procedure; additional electronic authorization will not be required if the visa is available. The host party, such as a hotel or private individual, must still notify the Kazakh authorities of the foreigner's location and its change.
