New restrictions on the use of social networks by children will come into force in Turkey from November 1, 2026. The platforms will be prohibited from providing services to users under the age of 15, and additional restrictions will be set for older teenagers, Turkish newspapers Anadolu Ajansı and Cumhuriyet report. The corresponding regulation was published on October 10 in the official government bulletin Resmî Gazete. The document obliges social networks to verify the age of users and prevent children under 15 from creating accounts. Age verification will be carried out through the e-Devlet state electronic services system. Moreover, according to the published rules, the system should confirm the user's age category without the need to tell the platform his complete personal data. Special security settings are provided for users aged 15 to 18. From the beginning, their pages will be closed, the possibility of conducting live broadcasts will be prohibited, and teenagers will be able to receive private messages only from the pages they follow. Platforms will also be prohibited from displaying personalized ads to such users. In addition, social networks will be required to provide parents with control tools that will allow them to limit the time of using the platforms, manage the settings of children's accounts and monitor paid transactions. Age verification for existing account users has been given until March 31, 2027. Accounts of users under the age of 15 found during the verification are subject to closure. The new rules are aimed at strengthening the protection of children on the Internet and limiting their access to potentially dangerous content.
