Israel’s decision to stop aid deliveries to Gaza is an act of collective punishment, and the international community must immediately put pressure on Israel to resume humanitarian deliveries to the region. This was stated by the international charity Oxfam.
“Humanitarian aid is not a bargaining chip to put pressure on the parties [to the conflict], but a fundamental right of civilians living in difficult and life-threatening circumstances. The people of Gaza need everything: drinking water, food, hygiene products and basic necessities, as well as the equipment needed to restore water and electricity supplies,” Oxfam said, calling on the international community “to immediately put pressure on Israel and urgently ensure the massive delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the Palestinian enclave.”
The organization also noted that, despite the significant improvements brought by the ceasefire agreement, the situation in the Gaza Strip remains catastrophic. “We are seeing absolutely apocalyptic scenes of complete destruction and signs of impending famine. The humanitarian aid that has been delivered in the weeks since the ceasefire has brought some relief, but it is a drop in the ocean,” Oxfam said.
