Canada says it did everything to keep the US happy and not impose tariffs

The Canadian government has done everything necessary to avoid American tariffs. This statement was made on air by Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on CTV.

“We have done everything to make the Americans happy,” the minister said. According to her, at Washington’s request, Ottawa has made significant progress in combating illegal migration and drug trafficking on the border with the United States.

Joly also said that the dialogue between the two capitals on the issue of tariffs is ongoing. In particular, she is scheduled to have a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on March 5.

On March 4, the US administration imposed customs duties of 25% on almost all imports from Canada and Mexico, and also raised tariffs on goods from China from 10% to 20%. According to Bloomberg, the duties were imposed on imported products worth about $1.5 trillion in annual terms.
