Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko told the BBC that Ukraine may have to make territorial concessions to achieve peace.
He called the measure forced and temporary.
“One of the scenarios is to give up territories. It is unfair. But for the sake of peace, even if temporary, perhaps this will be a solution. A temporary solution,” Klitschko said. The Kyiv mayor did not specify which territories he was talking about.
Klitschko especially emphasized that the Ukrainian people will never recognize the “Russian occupation.”
Klitschko, who is considered a political opponent of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, gave an interview to the BBC several hours after a Russian missile and drone strike on Kyiv killed 12 people and injured more than 80 Kyiv residents.
