The only MP to put the topic of the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on the agenda of the Turkish Parliament was George Aslan, an Assyrian from the Democratic Party. He is the only Assyrian MP in the 28th Turkish Parliament, ermenihaber.am writes.
Aslan delivered a special speech on the Armenian Genocide in the Turkish Parliament. At the beginning of his speech, he respectfully paid tribute to the Armenians, Assyrians and all other peoples who fell victim to the tragic events of the beginning of the last century.
“I have a question for all factions of political parties in the Parliament.” 1915 Of the 13 million people in Turkey, 3 million were Christians. Today, the population is 86 million, but the number of Christians is only 50,000. What happened to these 3 million Christians? “So why is it that today Turkey has a population of 86 million and these people are 50,000?” he said.
MP George Aslan noted that only with the answer to this question will there be real democracy in Turkey, otherwise there will be no democracy.
During Aslan’s speech, ruling party MP and former national team footballer Unal Karaman tried to interrupt him with offensive remarks. The Syrian MP retorted with the latter: “Well, stand up and answer this question like a man.” The verbal altercation ended with the microphone being turned off and Karaman responding: “Ask the historians.”
