The Executive Body of the Republican Party of Armenia expresses its deep indignation and regret over the resolution on Armenia adopted at the Congress of the European People’s Party, which has nothing to do with the true national interests of the Armenian people.
It is obvious that the draft resolution was created in the office of the ruling party of Armenia, which has an anti-national agenda, and appeared on the agenda of the EPP Congress as a result of personal lobbying by some influential figures of the EPP, without prior discussion with the Armenian parties that are members of the EPP.
Such a style of behavior is not only condemnable, but also completely contradicts the principles and values of the EPP, which we have witnessed and always highly valued throughout all the years of our membership.
The principles of solidarity, transparency, inclusiveness and partnership, characteristic of the political family, have been violated.
As for the content of the adopted resolution, it is an expression of the adventurism of the ruling regime in Armenia, which is well understood by high-ranking representatives of the European Union, who during the last pan-European elections were extremely cautious about the possible expansion of the EU and even about the membership process of the Balkan and TRIO countries.
Double standards are also unacceptable, when the EPP resolutely opposes the “forced peace” in the case of the Ukrainian war, but expresses support for the so-called “peace treaty” formed under the influence of force and the threat of its use by Azerbaijan, with unilateral concessions and violation of sovereignty by Armenia.
Against the background of the open political pressure exerted by the current Armenian administration on the opposition, in particular on members of the Republican Party of Armenia, talk about the democratization of Armenia is duplicitous and dishonest for the largest political family of the European Union. The fragmentary formulations contained in the resolution on the Artsakh issue, the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan in Artsakh, the Armenian prisoners held hostage in Baku prisons, the destruction of the spiritual and cultural heritage of Artsakh, are significantly inferior to a number of documents authored by the same EPP deputies and adopted by the European Parliament.
The adoption of such a resolution also contradicts the public assessments of the EPP and the documents it has adopted regarding Armenia’s domestic and foreign policy developments to date, which further highlights the inconsistency of the process of creating and adopting this resolution with the political culture of the EPP.
This style of work also deals a blow to the high reputation of the EPP, which has been formed over the years in Armenian society and which has always supported the Armenian people in issues related to both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
We are deeply convinced that Armenia-EU relations have a real agenda based on the coincidence of interests and values of both sides, the best proof of which is the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, agreed upon and signed during and thanks to the coming to power of the Republican Party. We will continue our work with all our international partners for the sake of the real interests of Armenia and the Armenian people.
