A shoe thrown from the crowd narrowly missed Kenyan President William Ruto’s head during a public address in Migori County in the west of the country, The Star newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the president was delivering a speech on reducing the cost of living. Footage circulated on social media shows Ruto batting away a shoe that was flying in his direction.
The event was interrupted by the president’s security detail, but resumed after police cleared the area around the platform where the Kenyan head of state was standing.
According to The Star, police have detained and are questioning three people. A search is underway for other people who may be involved in the incident.
