France welcomes US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“This announcement should lead to a complete cessation of hostilities, which France calls on all parties to adhere to. It is in everyone’s interest to avoid a new round of violence, the consequences of which would be disastrous for the entire region.
France reiterates that only a diplomatic solution can provide a long-term response to the security challenges posed by Iran’s nuclear program. Iran must never have nuclear weapons. In this regard, France calls on Iran to immediately begin negotiations with a view to concluding an agreement that addresses all concerns related to its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as its destabilizing activities. France, together with its partners, is fully mobilized to contribute to this objective,” the French foreign ministry added in its statement.
