A peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia could be announced at the White House on Friday, a White House official told The Washington Post on condition of anonymity.
The publication reports that U.S. President Donald Trump will host the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House on Friday as part of efforts to sign a peace deal between the two countries, which have been at war for decades.
The meeting, first confirmed to The Washington Post by two senior White House officials, is the latest example of the president’s efforts to end international conflicts and has earned him acclaim for it.
The publication also recalls that before his election, Trump, in an October post on Truth Social, speaking about the ethnically cleansed people of Artsakh, promised to “protect persecuted Christians” and criticized his rival Kamala Harris for “DOING NOTHING while 120,000 Armenian Christians are subjected to horrific persecution and forced displacement.” Trump said he would “work to stop the violence and ethnic cleansing and restore PEACE between Armenia and Azerbaijan.” A number of world leaders have nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, a tactic they have used both to praise Trump’s peacemaking efforts and to win his favor, the magazine reports.
