As an international lawyer, I believe that the case of Samvel Karapetyan is clearly a political case, and any trial, based on my experience, can be compared to a show trial, a performance. International human rights activist Robert Amsterdam said this at a press conference.
“It appears that the charge was brought based on a misinterpretation of the words used. The fact that this was not corrected and this person (Samvel Karapetyan) was not released is shocking in itself,” Robert Amsterdam noted.
He added that the Prime Minister did not listen carefully to Karapetyan’s words, and then uttered words that were both threatening and offensive, which, according to the international human rights activist, indicates that the Prime Minister will use all levers of power against Karapetyan.
“This is unheard of in a free democratic society,” Robert Amsterdam said.
