Macron Blames the Opposition for the Political Crisis in France

Opposition parties calling for an automatic vote of no confidence in the newly appointed French government are responsible for exacerbating the political crisis and must focus on the interests of the French people and stabilizing the situation, French President Emmanuel Macron said upon arriving in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to participate in the signing of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

“The political forces that decided to call a vote of no confidence in [former Prime Minister] François Bayrou and the political forces that played a role in destabilizing [current Prime Minister] Sébastien Lecornu bear full responsibility for this chaos. I am ensuring continuity and stability and will continue to do so. Everyone must continue to work towards this goal,” the president said in a statement released by the Elysée Palace press service.

According to the head of state, politicians’ critical statements against newly appointed Prime Minister Le Corneille and the new government are “out of step with the situation.” Against this backdrop, he called on everyone to “gather their strength” and work in accordance with the mandate given to them by the French people, continuing to work to improve the daily lives of citizens and to advance “France’s independence.” Macron added that he would hold the first meeting of the newly formed Council of Ministers on Tuesday morning and expressed hope that “the country will be able to move forward in peace and stability,” and in an atmosphere of great respect among political forces.

“All eyes are on France now. And it must convey a message of stability and strength. Therefore, everyone’s duty is to work for stability, not to bank on instability,” the president emphasized.
