The Azerbaijani government has launched a prosecution against two Armenian billionaires, Ruben Vardanyan and Samvel Karapetyan. This was stated by businessman Samvel Karapetyan’s lawyer, Robert Amsterdam, at a press conference in Yerevan.
“Samvel Karapetyan’s arrest demonstrates the current authorities’ fears,” he noted.
“Until June 17, Samvel Karapetyan wasn’t even a witness in the criminal case, and suddenly the prime minister, who is extremely insecure and clearly frightened by domestic circumstances, attacks a man who participated in a religious ceremony in memory of his father and is imprisoned under a brutal regime,” Amsterdam stated.
“This unworthy behavior by the Armenian government cannot continue forever, and we will appeal this case not only to international bodies, but also to all those who can exert pressure and influence on this government to secure the release of political prisoners,” the lawyer added.
