US President Donald Trump still intends to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, despite recent statements to the contrary, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said.
“As far as I know, President Trump still intends to attend,” he said, when asked whether the planned meeting between the Chinese and US leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea in late October or early November would remain in place.
“I think they have an excellent relationship,” Besant said of Trump and Xi Jinping. “And it hasn’t been strained because of the high level of trust between the two leaders,” the US Treasury Secretary emphasized.
