The Human Rights Defender referred to the incident in front of the Gyumri Municipality

On October 20, as a result of monitoring the mass media and social media, the Human Rights Defender’s staff received information that the situation in front of the Gyumri Municipality continues to be extremely tense. This was reported by the RA Human Rights Defender’s Office.

Publications have been circulated that apparently disproportionate force was used against citizens, and a group of people were taken to the Police Department.

At the instruction of the Human Rights Defender, a representative of the Shirak regional department is currently visiting the relevant Police Department to get acquainted with the situation of ensuring the rights of persons deprived of their liberty on site.

In addition, as a result of the monitoring, information was received that as a result of the current situation, the normal operation of a number of kindergartens operating in the community was not ensured, which had an impact on the right of children to preschool education.

The Ombudsman once again emphasizes that in the above-mentioned and any other processes, it is necessary to be guided exclusively by the principle of ensuring the best interests of the child.

The Human Rights Ombudsman is currently studying all the information circulating in order to ensure an appropriate response within the framework of his mandate.
