US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have held their first bilateral meeting since Trump began his second term in office in Busan, South Korea .
The meeting lasted an hour and 40 minutes, longer than the US president’s schedule had suggested. There was no joint statement following the meeting.
Trump has already left South Korea and is returning to Washington. Xi Jinping will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
Trump, followed by Xi Jinping, arrived in Busan less than an hour before the meeting was to begin.
Welcoming the Chinese leader, Trump told the cameras that he expected a “very successful meeting.”
