If we see continued talk of nuclear weapons testing elsewhere, more and more countries will decide to develop their own nuclear weapons. President of Latvia

We are part of an alliance that includes three nuclear powers: the United States, Great Britain, and France, and there is a so-called common nuclear umbrella, stated Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs.

Rinkēvičs noted that he is aware of the debate about whether Latvia needs its own nuclear weapons, and that this issue requires significant resources and technology.

“If we see continued talk of nuclear weapons testing and nuclear escalation blackmail elsewhere, more and more countries will decide to develop their own nuclear weapons. Such countries already exist, for example, India, Pakistan, and North Korea,” Rinkēvičs noted.
