A preliminary investigation conducted as a result of investigative measures carried out by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee in connection with the criminal case it initiated revealed that the chief specialist of the office of the head of the Arabkir administrative district of Yerevan and the head of the relevant department conspired to demand and accept a bribe as part of a group.
Specifically, it was established that the aforementioned officials, knowing in advance that the lease agreements for land plots occupied by garages located in the same district were about to expire, demanded and accepted a bribe from the latter in order to reduce the actual rent and ensure the smooth renewal of the agreements, as well as to submit applications to the relevant authorities on behalf of the garage owner.
The chief specialist was charged with bribery under Article 435, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. He has been placed under arrest as a preventive measure. The head of the unit has also been charged under the same article of the Criminal Code and has been banned from leaving the Republic of Armenia and has had his powers suspended. The garage owner, who bribed officials, has also been charged.
The preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been completed, and the case materials have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of the Republic of Armenia along with the indictment.
Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia and a final court verdict.
