Judge Karen Farkhoyan Extended Bishop Mkrtich’s Pretrial Detention by Two Months

The pretrial detention of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, Primate of the Aragatsotn Diocese, has been extended, according to the bishop’s lawyer, Roman Aharonyan.

The decision to extend the Holy Father’s pretrial detention by three months was made by Judge Karen Farkhoyan. The lawyer will appeal the decision as soon as he receives the appeal.

We asked the lawyer how the bishop feels about all this, to which Aharonyan replied: “Bishop Mkrtich is a worthy man and a very strong clergyman. It’s just that the legal proceedings are beyond the law.”

Bishop Mkrtich has been in custody since October 16. The Holy Father has been charged with two counts: obstructing the right to vote using his official position and coercing participation in public meetings using his official position. The Holy Father denies these charges.
