Bishop Mkrtich, who is under house arrest, cannot participate in religious services. A separate petition will be filed.

Several days ago, the court ordered the lifting of the arrest of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, Primate of the Aragatsotn Diocese, and the use of house arrest as an alternative restraining measure. The court also announced restrictions applicable to the Holy Father.

The court’s decision imposed restrictions on the bishop’s ability to participate in religious services.

According to the lawyer, this issue has not yet been discussed.

“This decision does not address this issue. We will file a separate petition on this matter,” he noted, emphasizing that the current situation violates the bishop’s right to freedom of religion.

Roman Aharonyan said that Bishop Mkrtich’s meetings with clergy of the Aragatsotn Diocese are also restricted.

“He can only meet with close relatives.”

The next court hearing is scheduled for February 20.

It should be noted that Archbishop Mikael Ajapahian, who is under house arrest, is also unable to participate in religious services.

His lawyer, Marin Farmanyan, plans to pursue a resolution to this issue.

“We filed a motion on this issue during the court hearing. The court postponed consideration of this motion on the grounds that it requires a review of both national and international judicial practice. I hope we will receive an answer to this question at the next court hearing,” Farmanyan said.
