Azerbaijan reiterates its claim to Armenian Syunik
“Refugees from Western Azerbaijan will return to their historical lands. This is their inalienable right,” stated Aziz Alakbarli, chairman of the hastily created “Western Azerbaijan Community,” according to Report.
The Azerbaijani official presented his intentions as a “historical right.” “Villages destroyed by the Armenians are being rebuilt in Karabakh, and our displaced persons are returning to their homeland after 30 years of division. Our homes and lands are in Western Azerbaijan, and the refugees will also return to their homeland. We are confident of this,” Alakbarli said.
It should be noted that according to the Azerbaijani constitution, this country is the legal successor to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), which briefly existed at the beginning of the last century and at that time could “claim” the entire territory of Armenia. This policy continues to this day.
