Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the imminent resignation of President Salome Zurabishvili through impeachment, who, in violation of the constitution, is actively negotiating with the opposition to create a “technical government” after the parliamentary elections on October 26, vz.ru reports.
“In a month, we will technically overthrow the president through impeachment. Everything else is not important,” he said.
Before the elections, the ruling Georgian Dream will file a lawsuit in the Constitutional Court against the president for foreign visits not agreed upon with the government, which is a violation of the basic law. Last year, an attempt to dismiss Salome Zurabishvili failed. For this, 100 mandates out of 150 were needed, and Georgian Dream gained 84 votes.
The ruling party claims that on October 26 it will receive at least 60 percent of the votes, which is approximately 106 seats. Zurabishvili may be brought to justice in late November – early December.
