Lavrov: The West is trying to open a second front against Russia in the Caucasus

Western countries continue to try to “open a second front” against Russia and destabilize the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a press conference following a meeting of the 3+3 consultative regional platform, Komsomolskaya Pravda reports.

“One of the very serious problems, returning to Georgia, is the well-known attempts of the West to open a second front against Russia. I mean to light a fire again and destabilize the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and make relations between Georgia and these two sovereign states hot,” the minister noted. According to him, most of the risks observed here are associated with the West’s attempts to maximally assert its influence and undermine Russia’s opportunities for equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with the countries of the South Caucasus.
