US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he “cannot speak to the veracity” of Israeli allegations that six journalists from Qatar’s Al Jazeera are members of armed groups in Gaza, and that the report needs to be “thoroughly examined.”
“We strongly support the work of journalists in Gaza and around the world, including in conflict zones, and we are also committed to ensuring the protection of journalists. Too many have died in Gaza,” Blinken said at a joint press conference with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The Qatari prime minister, for his part, said Al Jazeera was “an independent media institution of which we are very proud.”
