UNICEF says more than 200 children have died in Lebanon as conflict escalates

More than 200 children have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict escalated, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in Lebanon said in a statement in X.

“At least seven more children have been killed in today’s horrific attacks in Lebanon, bringing the death toll to over 200,” the statement said.

As the statement emphasized, “under international humanitarian law, children should never be targeted and their protection is a legal obligation.”

According to the Emergency Operations Center at the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since the military escalation began in October 2023, more than 3,100 people have been killed and more than 14,000 injured in bombings and shelling in the country.
